About Me

Medicine, anatomy, physiology, language, culture, and travel are the phrases to describe my life. Throughout my college career I have had the opportunity to explore health care in the United States and globally. I have focused on learning more about advocacy and access to quality healthcare. Through my internship, hospice volunteering, and research I have had the opportunity to reach people from all corners of the world. Through  Language and International Health I have pushed my boundaries and ventured into a variety of cultures which have shaped me into the person I am today.

Throughout my unique experiences I have grown many core values of empathy, determination, drive, and compassion. Many of these skills were grown from my study abroad experience in Senegal. I am the first ever student to complete a study abroad program in Senegal. This program was rigorous with 16 credit hours pushed into 6 weeks, and then an immersive 6 week internship (Internship and Study Abroad tab). Through cultural immersion and communication I strengthened my love of medicine through interacting with patients of all ages. I also learned about how resources and access to care truly can change all medical outcomes. I also gained communication skills in French which have allowed me to expand my conversations through conserving with a wider population. These skills will aid me as I pursue a medical degree and improve my skills throughout my gap year. I have explored my global interests through projects and research (Coursework tab).

After my time at Clemson, I plan to continue into medical school. I have a friendly and engaging personality that will allow me to connect with patients. I want them to feel comfortable in my strengths as a physician. Through my clinical experiences I have gained skills that strengthen my communication and focus on patient centered care. Many of my core values include empathy, determination, learning, humility, and passion. I intend to implement each of these values into my everyday life and occupation as I strive to increase advocacy and access to care.

Ultimately, I am determined to continue learning and growing intellectually and personally throughout the experiences in my life. Through my Study Abroad in Senegal (Study Abroad tab) and internship, I have learned to connect with others of another culture and understand the cultural empathy needed. These experiences and core values set me apart from other candidates as I can empathize and connect while bridging cultural barriers. I intend to continue learning in medical school, as I continue to strive for an empathetic approach to care and positive and supportive treatment of others throughout my professional life.
